Springfield Contemporary Theatre at the Vandivort Center Announces 2010 "Summer of Comedy" Season

Lou Schaeffer, SCT Executive Producer, made the following announcements at the Springfield Theatre Alliance press announcement this morning (April 6, 2010) at the Gillioz Theatre. Springfield Contemporary Theatre is pleased to announce our "summer of comedy" schedule, at this time:

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)

By Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield   Directed by George Cron   a co-production with Springfield Shakespeare Festival
Three actors. Ninety-seven minutes. All thirty-seven of the Bard's plays-and the sonnets! It's all here, with large doses of clowning, street theatre, and vaudeville thrown in for good measure. This irreverent, hilarious, and lightning-paced overview of the greatest plays of all time will have you rolling out of your seat and jumping in the aisles.

May 22-23, 27-30, June 3-6, 2010

Out of Order

By Ray Cooney   Directed by David Rice

From the writer of RUN FOR YOUR WIFE, comes another hilarious evening of door-slamming farce. Conservative Congressman, Richard Willey, is attempting to have an affair with one of the secretaries of the House Majority Leader in a top Washington hotel. With a conniving waiter, a suspicious hotel manager, an alert private detective, an angry wife, a furious husband, a bungling secretary, an unconscious nurse and a dead body, getting away with it will make a reconciliation vote look like a piece of cake.

June 25-27, July 1-3, 8-10, 2010

Song of Singapore

Book by Allan Katz and Erik Frandsen, Michael Garin, Robert Hipkens & Paula Lockheart; Music and Lyrics by Erik Frandsen, Michael Garin, Robert Hipkens & Paula Lockheart   Directed by Gretchen Teague

Join the inhabitants of an exotic jazz club in Singapore in 1941 for an evening of music and laughs. The club's chanteuse Rose has lost her memory, the wise-cracking members of the band are on the look out for missing jewels and the Japanese are about to attack. In a show that has been described as the Marx Brothers version of "Casablanca," intrigue is on the menu and madcap fun is the special of the day.

July 30-31, August 5-8, 12-14, 2010

Our fall season schedule will be announced this summer:

We have a strong line-up of directors: Rick Dines, Nathan Shelton and Bob Bradley producing a comedy and two musicals. It is hard to keep secrets in this community, but I can tell you that the Vandivort will really rock and roll in October and will produce a favorite family musical for the holidays.

Our winter/spring season will feature four more productions, to be announced in November:

Being a contemporary theatre company, we like to keep our options open for newly released plays which may become available at short notice. I can assure you that we are looking to both excite and entertain audiences in this period.

We will carry-over our popular reduced price tickets for opening weekends and the opening Friday and Saturday lobby receptions. Audiences enjoy a light refreshment and the opportunity to meet the cast members and creative staff on these special nights.

We will also continue using Flex Passes in denominations of 10 and 5 shows. Just like the US Postal Service, we will start selling a "forever" Flex Pass...good for any of our productions, now and for the life of the paper it is printed on. This will be the ticket buyer's hedge on inflation.

Three of our up-coming directors: Robert Bradley, George Cron and Nathan Shelton, were present at the announcements.
